Microsoft announced this week that, in addition to OpenAI models in Copilot Studio, the platform now includes Anthropic models. In the official announcement, Microsoft noted that users now have greater flexibility in “orchestration, chat, and deep reasoning scenarios,” as well as agent design and optimization.
For customers in early release cycle environments, Anthropic models are available to use today. Over the next two weeks, the Anthropic models will roll out in preview and will be ready for production use by the end of the year.
Copilot Studio will still rely on OpenAI as the standard model for creating new agents, but users now have the added option of working with Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1. These models can be integrated into Copilot Studio in two main ways, through orchestration and prompt building:
- Orchestration: Users can create, coordinate, and oversee agents using Anthropic models to enable advanced reasoning, automate workflows, support flexible agent tasks, and integrate tool usage
- Prompt building: A simplified approach to choosing your preferred model for various scenarios
